Metro Tunnel Project
Metro Tunnel is a city-shaping project for Melbourne and Victoria with the creation of a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south-east, with bigger, modern trains and five new stations. The Metro Tunnel is the first step towards a metro-style rail network for Melbourne.
Agonis Group played a key role in early constructability work. As part of CYP, Agonis provided insight into the cost and risk profile of the main TBM tunnelling works. On the RIA, Agonis provided design leadership and technical support on behalf of John Holland for the South Yarra Portals. Construction Manager Neil Bracken led the tunnelling TBM works between South Yarra and Town Hall Station. Agonis Group played a key role in train operations’ testing and commissioning phase. At the Domain interchange, Agonis led construction planning during the shutdowns of St Kilda Road and associated tram network. Furthermore, Agonis operated in an independent estimating advisory role, providing invaluable insight into cost management and risk assessment. Our team was instrumental in producing asset management strategies and plans for both the operator and CYP, encompassing high voltage (HV) and traction advisory to ensure the long-term sustainability and efficiency of the project’s infrastructure.
