Bendigo Water Treatment Plant

Agonis Group was engaged as the Constructability Advisor for the installation of a new chlorination facility and CWS Bypass tank within the existing Bendigo Water Treatment Plant. The project involved assessing the civil works necessary for the installation and developing a comprehensive construction plan.

Key Services and Contributions:

Concept Design Assessment: Using the existing concept design as a foundation, we evaluated the constructability and recommended enhancements where opportunities existed. Notably, while the design detailed the civil requirements, it lacked emphasis on the enabling works. Following a site visit and discussions with all participating parties, Agonis provided crucial input for additional site investigations and identified the scope of work required for managing existing utilities.

Construction Planning: Agonis developed a construction plan for the open-cut pipe installation adjacent to the existing reservoir and assessed two options for expediting the construction of a 15ML tank. This plan offered the client a realistic timeline for project delivery, addressing the previously unclear schedule.

Project Realism and Collaboration: A significant learning from this project was the importance of collaborative planning. Agonis brought together subject matter experts to develop an accurate forecast of the project’s timeline. Although the client initially had expectations for completing a portion of the work before a milestone date, Agonis provided a realistic assessment that highlighted the impracticality of this timeline. By setting accurate expectations early on, Agonis ensured all parties were aligned with the project’s realistic duration, preventing potential future delays.
