Saplings – Our Next Generation of Engineers

Our mission is to nurture and empower the next generation of engineers to achieve their fullest potential and drive the future growth of our industry.

Our young professionals have been instrumental in shaping the culture of Agonis Group through the Saplings initiative.

The Saplings have been founded to enhance the capabilities of the broader team by way of internal workshops, professional gatherings, mentoring schemes and the sharing of expertise through the Agonis Tree of Knowledge (ATOK). The group provides educational opportunities to enhance the expertise and confidence of our junior engineers in the industry, providing them with the support and platform to voice their views confidently.

The Saplings have brought forward initiatives, such as innovative construction methodologies, updated software and reporting methods, and sustainability initiatives and continue to challenge industry norms.

The Saplings gather every two months to discuss a range of engineering subjects, share knowledge and gain professional skills. It is accomplished by utilising subject-matter experts, on-site visits, and other experienced personnel within the organisation who offer their time to educate and impart knowledge to the younger generations.

They are encouraged to get involved in the industry, social, and networking opportunities such as Young Transport Professionals (YTP) and Young Engineers Australia – Victoria Division (YEAV). Additionally, the Saplings host a variety of social events between sessions that are always popular, from 5km fun runs to half marathons and triathlons.
