Geelong To Waurn Ponds Stage 3 & Bendigo Metro Stage 4
Agonis Group provided Constructability Advisory Services to Rail Projects Victoria (RPV) for critical business case submissions in the Regional Rail Revival program, focusing on the Geelong to Waurn Ponds (Stage 3) and Bendigo Metro (Stage 4) line upgrades.
Our Constructability, Planning, and Estimating (CPE) team worked closely with RPV and the Technical Advisor to identify significant value engineering opportunities. These efforts led to improved cost estimates, program schedules, and minimised disruptions, ensuring the successful delivery of these major infrastructure projects.
Key areas of value included:
Tunnelling Expertise: Our team evaluated several tunnel alignment and design options for the Waurn Ponds Rail Duplication. We proposed an alternative tunnel alignment that offered substantial cost savings and reduced rail disruption, which was adopted as the preferred option for the business case.
Complex Bridge Structures: The Waurn Ponds project involved a new 200-meter bridge over the Barwon River, floodplain, and a perpendicular grade-separated road crossing. We provided detailed constructability advice on pier placement, construction methodology, and program development, considering road and rail disruption constraints and environmental and heritage factors.
Rail Interface: Specialising in rail infrastructure, Agonis Group contributed key insights into the development, delivery, and maintenance of rail systems. Our interdisciplinary, whole-of-lifecycle approach ensured comprehensive and well-considered outcomes, aligning with best project practices for RPV.
Through these contributions, Agonis Group played a pivotal role in optimising project delivery, reducing costs, and mitigating disruptions, demonstrating our commitment to excellence in rail infrastructure projects.
